The Zhang International Violin Competition is a leading international competition for young violinists, recognised for its commitment to artistic excellence, educational innovation, and global collaboration. It serves as a professional platform for young musicians to develop their skills, gain international exposure, and engage with a global network of educators and peers.

Since its founding, the competition has grown from a national event in Australia into a fully international contest, attracting participants from around the world. By combining rigorous evaluation standards with innovative educational approaches, the competition provides a unique environment where young violinists can showcase their talent, receive expert guidance, and explore new paths in violin education.

Educational Philosophy

Professor Peter Shixiang Zhang, a renowned violin pedagogue with over 70 years of teaching experience, founded the competition with a vision of integrating artistic excellence, educational innovation, and international collaboration.

Central to this vision is his Electronic Audio-Visual Scores system — a step-by-step multimedia curriculum that combines sheet music, performance demonstrations, and technical guidance. With over 7,000 instructional videos, the system allows students worldwide to learn systematically, efficiently, and independently.
